Boris Chen
Associate Consultant at Boston Consulting Group
I received offers from all of McKinsey, BCG, and Bain as a Wharton undergrad, and I'll be joining BCG this summer. But my path there was anything but conventional. I got rejected from every consulting club on campus.
Without the structured prep, mock interview partners, and alumni networks those clubs provide, I had to build my own system from scratch. I found mentors outside the traditional pipeline, developed my own approach to casing and networking, and learned what actually moves the needle versus what just feels productive. In the end, going at it alone gave me a much deeper understanding of the process than any club could have.
That experience is exactly why I coach. I know what it's like to feel behind, to watch classmates get resources you don't have access to, and to wonder if you're even preparing the right way. Since then, I've been mentoring underclassmen — many of whom were in the same position I was — and it's been really fulfilling to see them start landing interviews and offers.
Whether you're recruiting without a built-in support system or just want guidance from someone who recently went through it all, I'd love to help.
