Abderazzaq Noor

Head of Marketing & Communications Royal Australasian College of Surgeons

I enjoy helping people do the best they can. I have mentored various people over the years—formally and informally, and feel privileged to have been part of their journey. I have been in leadership roles for more than 20 years in the government, not-for-profit and corporate sectors, working in education, health, aged care, financial services, advertising and manufacturing. I have worked with global organisations such as General Motors and Save the Children as well as bi-national organisations such as the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Monash University, one of the leading universities in the world. My work has taken from Africa to Europe, the US, Asia, New Zealand and Australia where I currently live. I am a Somali from the Horn of Africa and I guess my nomadic heritage thrives when I move around! In my free time, I spend as much time as possible in my garden and kitchen. I love writing recipes and posting them on my food blog (www.somalikitchen.com). I am also working on a cookbook with a friend and hope to see it out there in print one day!

Working with mentor was a career-changing experience. There are facets of our mentoring session that I still use to this day in my career. I have received valuable advice and insight. The knowledge I have obtained is priceless. I'm forever grateful for this experience.
