About me ✓ Ellie is a certified mentor
Since earning my joint Bachelors in Philosophy and English Literature abroad, I have spent over 10 years working in PR and brand communications in the digital lifestyle and fitness industries. Based in Munich, I have worked for some of the world’s biggest brands, including Sony PlayStation, Getty Images, Rockstar Games, Intel, Mini and frog design. In 2015 I joined fitness startup Freeletics as Entrepreneurial Marketing Manager for a new app, running all marketing activities including CRM, ASO, website optimization, in-app content, social media, community management, content creation, blog content, marketing campaigns and influencer marketing.
I am currently Brand Relations Lead at Freeletics, owning global corporate communication, PR, employer branding, influencer marketing, community management and brand partnerships to push our brand globally in a strategic way. Having seen the company go from a small startup to an AI-powered fitness and lifestyle brand, as well as Europe’s #1 fitness app, I have definitely experienced the ins and outs of brand marketing for a startup. The wide range of projects and brands I have worked on over the years have taught me that whether you’re enjoying a surplus of budget and relevance, or you have neither time nor money to get the word out, there is always a way to successfully tell your story and build your brand, both internally and externally.
Storytelling, communication and creativity are my specialities. Strategy, copywriting, campaigns, branding, pitching or partnerships, it’s all familiar territory and part of the everyday job. Despite restricted resources and a saturated market, the global PR performance of Freeletics has continued to go from strength to strength over the last 4 years with the help of some creative hacks and storytelling, increasing by 15,000% since I began leading our PR efforts. It just goes to show what’s possible when you think beyond just what you have.
It’s not always necessary to know everything there is to know about a topic for you to make a project a success. Much of the last 10 years was spent learning by doing, and there were countless situations that pushed me way past my comfort zone. But this is the best way to learn and excel, to grow in confidence and to be able to handle anything an unpredictable industry might throw at you.
