I'd like to spread knowledge and share some insights in order to support translators'(and other professionals, freelance and contract female employees) community. I know a lot of you guys these days are panicking and feel completely abandoned...many of you have no idea how to deal with the fact that AI is completely changing our reality. Some of you consider a career switch but are not sure how to initiate the process.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've personally experienced the language industry from all possible sides:
đ I started as a language teacher (assistant professor and lecturer at the Universities) and freelance translator and editor;
đ I've received my PhD in language studies from the University of Udine and Trieste (Italy).
My research interests include: psycho- and neurolinguistics, cognitive and language development diagnostic methods in bi/multilingual children, heritage speakers (see 1 of my academic articles here - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/13670050.2020.1774494 )
đ I supported Google Shopping's expansion on EU markets on the vendor's side and designed a mentoring program supporting new leads for them;
đ I worked for the giant of the loco-industry - Lionbridge as a senior PM;
đ I am currently on the client's side, serving a B2B SAAS company, making their software and marketing materials multilingual and helping them penetrating new EMEA and LATAM markets. I manage a team of 16 freelance translators, 5 in-house reviewers, set up workflows from scratch, take care of integrations, define budget and directly report to the CEO of the company.
I recently became a mentor myself (https://womeninlocalization.com/resources/mentorship-program/), so I can support women affected by the rapid spread of artificial intelligence in their transformational journey. I know some of them might find it more convenient to use this platform, so I created my profile here as well.
đ I am also serving as a Program Director in a non-profit called 'Women in Localization' (NGO) - https://womeninlocalization.com/about-us/program-directors/. This year, I am launching our mental health and wellness program for the members.
âIf you are interested in what I am doing and what kind of methods I use in my mentoring, pls have a look at my LinkedIn page - https://www.linkedin.com/in/nadja-ruhl/ under #mentoring and #iDEMANDchange in the localization industry;
âLast but not least - in terms of human design I am a 6\2 manifestor. Currently experimenting with the alternative health practices and Vedic knowledge.
In 2024 I celebrate my 10 years in yoga (current focus - Kundalini)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are also some topics that i am open to talk about:
- career \ industry switch vs enhancing your current skill set
- women empowerment, female leadership, and boundary setting. Emotional intelligence.
- human design \ gene keys and how to use them to support your personal growth
- micromanagement and toxic work environments (reality check. Do you need to quit and detox? How do you do that without ruining your mental health?)
- AI and LLMs in translation (worth it or not?)
- translation and localization (engineering, building trust in the team, managing freelancers, and why I prefer tailored in-house solutions to mass market corpo's ones)
- B2B SAAS companies internationalization and new markets expansion
