Marino Chavez: From Scientist to Science Communicator Marino Chavez, a passionate scientist and social entrepreneur, founded SciKid Club in 2017, driven by a desire to share his love of science with others. After graduating with a degree in Pharmaceutical Biological Chemistry, Marino spent time in the industry, gaining valuable experience but longing for a more direct impact. His entrepreneurial journey began with a win in a social entrepreneurship competition, fueled by the idea of "STEAM education and communication for kids." This project, initially called SciKid Hub, later evolved into SciKid Club, reflecting its focus on creating a community of young learners. The core values of SciKid Club are "frugal science" and accessibility. Inspired by the Foldscope, a low-cost microscope, Marino strives to make science education affordable and engaging for all children. He believes that by igniting their curiosity and critical thinking skills, he can empower them to solve their own problems and contribute to positive change. Fueled by this mission, Marino pursued a Master's degree in Molecular Biology and continues to develop SciKid Club into a hybrid business model, offering both online and in-person workshops alongside affordable science kits. This approach tackles the critical issue of limited science education in Latin America, aiming to cultivate a future generation of informed and problem-solving individuals.
